CURRAN -- read once and referred to the Committee on Insurance AN ACT to amend the insurance law, in relation to health insurance coverage for breast ultrasounds for cancer screening The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. Paragraph 11 of subsection (i) of section 3216 of the 2 insurance law is amended by adding a new subparagraph (G) to read as 3 follows: 4 (G) Such coverage shall also be provided for a breast ultrasound in 5 all instances where a mammography screening is provided for under 6 subparagraph (A) of this paragraph in the event that a physician deter- 7 mines that a covered person has extremely dense or heterogeneously dense 8 breast tissue. 9 § 2. Paragraph 11 of subsection (l) of section 3221 of the insurance 10 law is amended by adding a new subparagraph (G) to read as follows: 11 (G) Such coverage shall also be provided for a breast ultrasound in 12 all instances where a mammography screening is provided for under 13 subparagraph (A) of this paragraph in the event that a physician deter- 14 mines that a covered person has extremely dense or heterogeneously dense 15 breast tissue. 16 § 3. Subsection (p) of section 4303 of the insurance law is amended by 17 adding a new paragraph 6 to read as follows: 18 (6) Such coverage shall also be provided for a breast ultrasound in 19 all instances where a mammography screening is provided for under para- 20 graph one of this subsection in the event that a physician determines 21 that a covered person has extremely dense or heterogeneously dense 22 breast tissue. 23 § 4. This act shall take effect on the sixtieth day after it shall 24 have become a law and shall apply to all policies and contracts issued, 25 renewed, modified, altered or amended on or after such date.
