OTIS -- read once and referred to the Committee on Education AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to student governments The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. The education law is amended by adding a new section 817 to 2 read as follows: 3 § 817. Student government. The board of education or trustees of every 4 school district serving high school students in grades nine through 5 twelve with no districtwide or school building peer selected student 6 government shall establish at least one student government organization 7 within such district or school building with the goal of ensuring all 8 eligible students have the opportunity to participate in such student 9 government. 10 § 2. This act shall take effect on the first of September next 11 succeeding the date on which it shall have become a law.
