SMULLEN -- read once and referred to the Commit- tee on Governmental Employees AN ACT in relation to authorizing Isaac B. Bertos to take the compet- itive civil service examination for the position of police officer and be placed on the eligible list for employment as a full-time police officer for the village of Ilion The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. Notwithstanding the provisions of section 58 of the civil 2 service law, including the age requirements under paragraph (a) of 3 subdivision 1 of such section, or any other provision of law to the 4 contrary, Isaac B. Bertos, who has been continuously employed by the 5 village of Ilion, in the county of Herkimer, as a part-time police offi- 6 cer, shall be eligible to take the competitive civil service examination 7 for the position of police officer and shall, contingent upon his score 8 on such examination, be eligible to be placed on the eligible list for 9 appointment as a full-time police officer with the village of Ilion 10 police department. 11 § 2. Isaac B. Bertos shall otherwise be subject to the merit and 12 fitness provisions of the civil service law applicable to full-time 13 police officers. 14 § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
