 Senate Resolution No. 326 BY: Senator HARCKHAM MOURNING the death of Donald Lee Singer Sr., cherished family man, accomplished veteran, and distinguished lawyer WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and this great Empire State; and WHEREAS, Donald Lee Singer Sr. of Cortlandt Manor, New York, died on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at the age of 85; and WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of New York, Donald Lee Singer Sr. was born in Manhattan, New York, and grew up primarily in the Bronx, attending New York City Public Schools; and WHEREAS, Donald Lee Singer Sr. joined the United States Air Force in 1955, graduating from basic training at Sampson Air Force Base shortly thereafter; he was assigned to Homestead Air Force Base in Florida, and later transferred to a U.S. Base in Morocco, North Africa, where he was assigned to a B-47 bomber base; and WHEREAS, In 1959, Donald Lee Singer Sr. received an Honorable Discharge from the Air Force after attaining the rank of Airman First Class; and WHEREAS, With unwavering commitment to serving his country, Donald Lee Singer Sr. was also commissioned as a Captain in the U.S. Army, ultimately achieving the esteemed rank of Brigadier General; he partook in many military activities, and served four months with the National Guard at Ground Zero after the tragic events of 9/11; and WHEREAS, Donald Lee Singer Sr. distinguished himself in his profession and by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of his community; and WHEREAS, Joining the Greenburgh Police Department in Westchester, New York, in 1960, Donald Lee Singer Sr. valiantly rose through the ranks, proudly becoming Chief of Police in 1975, before retiring in 1992; and WHEREAS, With unparalleled grit and determination, Donald Lee Singer Sr. admirably earned four college degrees, including a Doctor of Law in 1985, all while working full time; and WHEREAS, Following his retirement in 1992, Donald Lee Singer Sr. began to practice law full time; a truly generous man, he often gave of his time and energies providing pro bono services for those in need; and WHEREAS, A licensed pilot since 1950, Donald Lee Singer Sr. was an active member of the Civil Air Patrol, holding the rank of Lieutenant Colonel; and WHEREAS, Donald Lee Singer Sr.'s commitment to excellence, and his spirit of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including charitable and civic endeavors; and WHEREAS, Donald Lee Singer Sr. is survived by his beloved wife, Anne; three revered sons, Donald Jr., Garry, and Brian; and six loving grandchildren, Lauren, Caroline, Matthew, Sofia, Anna, and Kyle; and WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of compassion, Donald Lee Singer Sr. leaves behind a legacy which will long endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to mourn the death of Donald Lee Singer Sr., cherished family man, accomplished veteran, and distinguished lawyer; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to the family of Donald Lee Singer Sr.
