 Senate Resolution No. 584 BY: Senator PARKER COMMENDING Rev. Dr. Wendy J. Kelly-Carter upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition by the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of New York at their Celebration of Women Luncheon WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and cannot be sufficiently extolled; and WHEREAS, Rev. Dr. Wendy J. Kelly-Carter has given not only of her time and energies but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has been designated for special honor; and WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Rev. Dr. Wendy J. Kelly-Carter upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition by the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of New York, to be celebrated at the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of New York's Celebration of Women Luncheon taking place Saturday, March 25, 2023; and WHEREAS, Each year New York State officially sets aside time to recognize the unique contributions that New York women have made to New York State and beyond; and WHEREAS, Rev Dr. Wendy J. Kelly-Carter has been called upon to contribute her time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given of herself unstintingly; and WHEREAS, Rev. Dr. Wendy J. Kelly-Carter received a Doctorate degree in Ministry from the New York Theological Seminary in May of 2021; she received her A.A.S. and B.S. degrees from SUNY Empire State College; in 2007, she was licensed to preach and ordained by Abyssinian Baptist Church in 2010; and WHEREAS, She served as an Associate Minister at Victory Baptist Church, Bronx, New York, and is now an Associate Minister at Mount Olivet Baptist Church, Harlem, New York where Rev. Dr. Charles A. Curtis is the Pastor; and WHEREAS, Rev. Dr. Wendy J. Kelly-Carter belongs to the New York Coalition of 100 Black, National Council of Negro Women, Legislative Lead for AARP, League of Women Voters, NAACP, New York Statewide, Senior Action Council, and the New York State Alliance for Retired Americans; and WHEREAS, Her Ministry Affiliations are with the Empire Baptist Missionary Convention of New York, Inc., American Baptist Churches of Metropolitan New York, United Missionary Baptist Association, and Baptist Ministers Evening Conference of Greater NY & Vicinity; and WHEREAS, Rev. Dr. Wendy J. Kelly-Carter is the Recording Secretary for the Baptist Ministers Conference of Greater NY & Vicinity, the 1st Vice President, UMBA Congress Christian Education, and is a Board Member of Harlem Congregations for Community Improvement (HCCI); and WHEREAS, With a great variety of skills, Rev. Dr. Wendy J. Kelly-Carter is a certified teacher of the National Baptist Convention, U.S.A. Sunday School Publishing Board, is a nursing home Ombudsman and a Community Health Worker, and received her Community Chaplaincy certificate from the American Baptists Home Mission Societies, November of 2021; and WHEREAS, Rev. Dr. Wendy J. Kelly-Carter graduated in May of 2022, from the Metropolitan Chapter NYS Chaplains Workers Task Force, is the President of District Eight National Alliance of Postal and Federal Employees, and recently served at the Greater Universal Baptist Church, Bronx, New York, as the Interim Pastor; and WHEREAS, Active in her community, Rev. Dr. Wendy J. Kelly-Carter actively attends community board meetings and precinct council meetings, coordinates the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day event for the Baptist Ministers Conference on the third Monday of January which is held at the Convent Avenue Baptist Church, developed an HIV-AIDS initiative for the NAPFE in conjunction with IRIS House; and WHEREAS, Additionally, she coordinated youth and young adult events at the Harlem YMCA, participated for 20 years in the African American Day Parade in Harlem, organized food and clothing drives from the former union office at 2299 Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. Boulevard; furthermore, Rev. Dr. Wendy J. Kelly-Carter has held numerous voter registration drives, and participated in several demonstrations in the Harlem community; Rev. Wendy still assists seniors in locating resources; and WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individual for the benefit of others which Rev. Dr. Wendy J. Kelly-Carter has displayed throughout her life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to honor Rev. Dr. Wendy J. Kelly-Carter upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition by the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of New York at their Celebration of Women Luncheon; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to Rev. Dr. Wendy J. Kelly-Carter.
