 Senate Resolution No. 855 BY: Senator COMRIE CONGRATULATING Julia Rinehardt upon the occasion of celebrating her 100th Birthday WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to commemorate and recognize certain milestones celebrated by citizens of this great Empire State; and WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Julia Rinehardt upon the occasion of her 100th Birthday to be celebrated on Friday, June 2, 2023; and WHEREAS, Born in Waycross, Georgia, on June 2, 1923, to her parents Noah and Louise Gamble; and WHEREAS, This gifted young woman later moved with her family to Florida where she would spend her youth; Julia was educated in Florida's public school system from grade school through high school and later matriculated at Florida A&M where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree; and WHEREAS, After completing her college career, Julia Gamble and her sister Dorothy relocated to New York City where both would go on to pursue careers in public service; Julia became a social worker, she continued as a social worker until her retirement; and WHEREAS, While in New York, Julia Gamble met and married the love of her life Paul F. Rinehardt in January of 1950; from this union were born three beautiful daughters: Katherine, Yvonne, and Karolyn (deceased 2003); Paul and Julia enjoyed over 35 years of life and love before his passing in 1987; and WHEREAS, A long-time supporter of the United Methodist Far Rockaway Mission, Julia Rinehardt made a point of being present and contributing to helping out whenever needed; for many years this lively, energetic woman looked forward to lacing-up her walking shoes and participating in the mission's annual Walk-A-Thon, a fundraiser providing financial support to help sustain this beloved mission, she continued walking in this event yearly into her early 90s; and WHEREAS, Julia Rinehardt, with her zest for life, has been a shining member and supporter of Springfield Gardens United Methodist Church; as she approaches her centennial year as a citizen of her Jamaica New York community, we celebrate her life and the difference her living has made to so many; and WHEREAS, In addition, her Christian faith has always been a significant anchor in her life, she sees ministry not merely as that which she is blessed to receive, but that which she is blessed and called to share with others within her church and the wider community; and WHEREAS, Julia Rinehardt has enriched the lives of those around her through her joyous and sincere love for others and through the quiescent charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years; and WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recognize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have witnessed and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and remarkable achievements of this country during the last century, while themselves contributing to the growth and excellence of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to congratulate Julia Rinehardt upon the occasion of celebrating her 100th Birthday; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to Julia Rinehardt.
