Senate Resolution No. 1456 BY: Senator ORTT COMMEMORATING the 200th Anniversary of the Town of Lockport, New York WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to honor and commemorate the distinguished histories of the communities which comprise the noble body of this great Empire State; and WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the 200th Anniversary of the Town of Lockport, New York, to be celebrated with a Birthday Celebration on Friday, February 2, 2024; and WHEREAS, The Town of Lockport, New York is a community located in the south-central part of Niagara County and is surrounded by the City of Lockport, 35 minutes from Niagara Falls to the west and approximately 60 miles from Rochester to the east; and WHEREAS, Established in 1824 and encompassed by farmland, the Transit North retail corridor, and the Niagara Escarpment, the Town of Lockport is home to the historic Erie Canal which travels through the northern part of the Town; and WHEREAS, Proudly home to significant industries, Lockport's notable businesses are the Verizon Media/Yahoo complex, sawmills, data centers, a brand-new Lockport Memorial Hospital, a campus of Mount St. Mary's affiliated with the Catholic Health Hospital System, and everything in between; and WHEREAS, Furthermore, the Town is home to the Niagara County Historical Society, Day Road Park, John Austin Nature Trail, and the Historic Pomeroy School; and WHEREAS, The Town of Lockport lies within the Lockport City School District, small areas also attend Akron, Newfane, Royalton-Hartland, and Starpoint Central School Districts all of which offer quality educational opportunities for students; and WHEREAS, Promoting a business-friendly culture for the Town's economic future, combined with a sense of pride and a historic past, Lockport is enthusiastically pursuing businesses to locate to its quaint little town; and WHEREAS, Remaining fruitful over the ebb and flow of decades of growth and change, the Town of Lockport continues its commitment to enhancing the quality of life of its citizens, ensuring a positive business, institutional and educational climate, and providing all essential services; and WHEREAS, In recognition of the Town of Lockport's rich history and enduring contribution to the State of New York, this Legislative Body is proud to pay tribute to this lively town upon the occasion of its 200th Anniversary; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to commemorate the 200th Anniversary of the Town of Lockport, New York, recognizing the significance of the role it continues to play in the State of New York and its communities; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to Mark C. Crocker.
