 Senate Resolution No. 1467 BY: Senator GRIFFO CONGRATULATING Connor Dean upon the occasion of capturing the NYSPHSAA Division I Pentathlon Championship WHEREAS, Individual and team championships are highly sought after in high school sports; this Legislative Body commends rare athletic achievements and pays special recognition to those who pursue such excellence and become examples for the youth of this great Empire State; and WHEREAS, Athletic competition helps to enhance both the moral and physical development of young athletes, preparing them for the future by instilling in them the importance of teamwork, encouraging a standard of healthy living, and developing a sense of fair play and competition; and WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Connor Dean upon the occasion of capturing NYSPHSAA Division I Pentathlon Championship at the State Track and Field Championships at Middletown High School over the weekend of Friday and Saturday, June 9-10, 2023; and WHEREAS, Camden Central School senior Connor Dean took home the coveted championship title for his outstanding performance in the outdoor pentathlon; he won the long jump and the 1500 meters to win the event by just 90 points over his competition; the athlete also managed to take third place in the high jump and fourth in the shot put to secure the coveted state championship; and WHEREAS, Proudly donning the school's colors of blue and white, family members, friends, and the community at large loyally and enthusiastically supported Connor Dean throughout his journey as he ended his season with this magnificent win; and WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by this young man is due in great part to the efforts of his coaches and skilled and inspirational tutors, respected for their ability to develop potential into excellence; and WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride, and accomplishment, and Connor Dean has clearly contributed to the spirit of excellence which is a tradition of his school; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to congratulate Connor Dean upon the occasion of capturing the NYSPHSAA Division I Pentathlon Championship; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to Connor Dean.
