LIU -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Cities 1 AN ACT to amend the administrative code of the city of New York, in relation to signage in school speed zones The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. Paragraph 1 of subdivision e of section 19-177 of the 2 administrative code of the city of New York, as added by local law 3 number 24 of the city of New York for the year 2014, is amended to read 4 as follows: 5 (1) Except as provided in paragraph two of this subdivision, the 6 commissioner shall establish speed limits of not less than fifteen nor 7 more than twenty miles per hour at fifty school locations annually, for 8 a distance not to exceed one thousand three hundred twenty feet, on 9 highways passing any school building, entrance or exit of a school abut- 10 ting on the highway. For school years beginning on and after August 11 first, two thousand twenty-four, twenty percent of the school locations 12 that have been selected pursuant to this subdivision shall have official 13 signs posted that include the reduced speed limit, flashing beacons, and 14 a notice that the reduced speed limit is in effect when such beacons are 15 flashing. The number of school locations at which such signs shall be 16 posted shall increase by twenty percent each year. Such signs shall be 17 posted no later than the first day of school for such year. For purposes 18 of this subdivision, the term "school" shall have the same meaning as in 19 section 19-189 of this [title] subchapter. 20 § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
