CLEARE, MAY -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Women's Issues -- recommitted to the Committee on Women's Issues in accordance with Senate Rule 6, sec. 8 -- committee discharged, bill amended, ordered reprinted as amended and recommitted to said committee AN ACT to amend the public health law, in relation to establishing a uterine fibroids awareness and education program The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. Title 6 of article 2 of the public health law is amended by 2 adding a new section 267-b to read as follows: 3 § 267-b. Uterine fibroids awareness and education program. 1. The 4 department shall conduct an ongoing public awareness and education 5 program under section two hundred seven of this article on the symptoms, 6 diagnosis and treatment of uterine fibroids and the elevated risk for 7 minority women. 8 2. The department shall produce and distribute educational materials 9 on the elevated risks of uterine fibroids for minority women, symptoms 10 of uterine fibroids and available treatments. Such materials shall be 11 made available to appropriate health care providers for distribution to 12 patients. The department shall also provide information on the symptoms, 13 diagnosis and treatment of uterine fibroids and the elevated risk for 14 minority women on the department's internet website. No provision of 15 this subdivision shall be deemed to prohibit the utilization and 16 distribution of educational materials relating thereto produced by any 17 public, private or governmental entity, in lieu of the department's 18 production of such materials. 19 3. The department shall periodically review available data on the 20 symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of uterine fibroids and the elevated 21 risk for minority women and update the information provided in its 22 educational materials and on its internet website, as appropriate. The department shall report every three years, commencing January 2 first, two thousand twenty-seven, to the governor, the temporary presi- 3 dent of the senate and the speaker of the assembly on the implementation 4 of this section and any recommendations for furthering the purpose of 5 this section. 6 5. Implementation of this section shall be contingent upon and shall 7 be conducted within appropriations made therefor. 8 § 2. This act shall take effect on the one hundred eightieth day after 9 it shall have become a law. Effective immediately, the addition, amend- 10 ment and/or repeal of any rule or regulation necessary for the implemen- 11 tation of this act on its effective date are authorized to be made and 12 completed on or before such effective date.
