  STATE OF NEW YORK ________________________________________________________________________ 8651--A  IN SENATE February 26, 2024 ___________ Introduced by Sen. CLEARE -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Health -- committee discharged, bill amended, ordered reprinted as amended and recommitted to said committee AN ACT to amend the public health law, in relation to grants for geria- tric emergency departments; in relation to establishing a center for technical assistance relating to age-friendly health systems; and in relation to hospital performance data The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. This act shall be known and may be cited as the "age- 2 friendly health system enhancement act of 2024". 3 § 2. The public health law is amended by adding a new section 2831 to 4 read as follows: 5 § 2831. Geriatric emergency departments. Subject to an appropriation 6 therefor, the commissioner shall award accredited level two geriatric 7 emergency departments in the state a grant of five hundred thousand 8 dollars per year for three years with the condition that each department 9 grantee shall reach level one status within twenty-four months of 10 receiving the first grant award. 11 § 3. Subdivision 1 of section 206 of the public health law is amended 12 by adding a new paragraph (w) to read as follows: 13 (w) establish, in conjunction with the office for the aging, a center 14 for technical assistance in relation to age-friendly health systems. 15 Such center shall be a public-private entity and shall utilize outside 16 entities including but not limited to the Institute for Healthcare 17 Improvement. 18 § 4. The section heading of section 2995-b of the public health law, 19 as added by chapter 542 of the laws of 2000, is amended and a new subdi- 20 vision 4 is added to read as follows: 21 Hospital [report cards] performance data. 22 4. Special designations. This act shall take effect immediately; provided, however, that 5 the implementation of the provisions of section two of this act shall be 6 subject to the appropriation of moneys specifically for the purposes 7 thereof.
