  STATE OF NEW YORK ________________________________________________________________________ 9927  IN SENATE October 9, 2024 ___________ Introduced by Sen. SKOUFIS -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Rules AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to requiring certain grants to nonpublic schools for health and safety purposes be able to be used on school resource officers The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. The education law is amended by adding a new section 554 to 2 read as follows: 3 § 554. School health and safety grants; school resource officers. The 4 department and the office of religious and independent schools shall 5 include in any grant program which provides funding or reimbursement to 6 nonpublic schools for services and expenses of health and safety equip- 7 ment, security personnel, related assessments and training needs, reme- 8 diation of hazardous conditions, and/or the repair and maintenance of 9 buildings, facilities, appurtenances, equipment and systems to maintain 10 the health and safety of school building occupants, the ability for such 11 nonpublic schools to be provided funding or be reimbursed by the depart- 12 ment for the salaries of school resource officers. 13 § 2.
