11 <PRE WIDTH="200"> Assembly Resolution No. 355 <B>BY:</B> M. of A. Tague <B>MOURNING</B> the death of Michael J. Overbaugh distinguished citizen and devoted member of his community <B>WHEREAS,</B> It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great State of New York; and <B>WHEREAS,</B> Michael J. Overbaugh of Catskill, New York, died on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at the age of 62; and <B>WHEREAS,</B> Michael J. Overbaugh distinguished himself in his profession and by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of his community; and <B>WHEREAS,</B> Born and raised in Catskill, New York, Michael J. Overbaugh graduated from Catskill High School in 1980, and went on to enlist in the U.S. Navy where he went on to serve as a machinery repairman-second class, working on nuclear submarines; and <B>WHEREAS,</B> On February 14, 1982, Michael J. Overbaugh married his high school sweetheart, June Gallagher, and upon his discharge from the Navy in 1984, they returned home together to Catskill; and <B>WHEREAS,</B> Michael J. Overbaugh later worked for the New York State Department of Corrections for nearly 26 years, retiring from the Greene Correctional Facility with the rank of lieutenant; and <B>WHEREAS,</B> An active member of the Kiskatom Fire Department for over 40 years, Michael J. Overbaugh achieved the esteemed rank of chief, the position he held at the time of his passing; in 2001, he was named one of Greene County's Firefighters of the Year for saving the life of a fellow firefighter; and <B>WHEREAS,</B> In 2020, Michael J. Overbaugh was appointed as the superintendent of the Greene County Jail; he was later appointed as the undersheriff of the Greene County Sheriff's Office, a position he held until his passing; he also remained an active member of the Town of Hunter Police Department as a patrolman; and <B>WHEREAS,</B> A guiding light to many, Michael J. Overbaugh always offered important life lessons and bestowed wisdom upon those he had the pleasure of knowing; whether it was with members of his beloved family, or with fellow corrections officers, police officers, or firefighters, he was a fiercely loyal and respected man by those he trusted and cared for; and <B>WHEREAS,</B> Michael J. Overbaugh's commitment to excellence, and his spirit of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including charitable and civic endeavors; and <B>WHEREAS,</B> Michael J. Overbaugh is survived by his wife, June (Gallagher); daughter, Eileen (Michael); son, Adam (Nicole); two grandchildren, Logan and Avery; five siblings, Harold "Larry" (Linda), Carol (Frank), Susan (Stephen), Marion, and William "Billy" (Kerry); and many nieces and nephews; he is predeceased by his parents, Harold and Marion Overbaugh; and <B>WHEREAS,</B> Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of compassion, Michael J. Overbaugh leaves behind a legacy which will long endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it <B>RESOLVED,</B> That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to mourn the death of Michael J. Overbaugh, distinguished citizen and devoted member of his community; and be it further <B>RESOLVED,</B> That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to the family of Michael J. Overbaugh.
