5050 BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA:
5151 SECTION 1. AMENDATORY 19 O.S. 2 021, Section 516, is
5252 amended to read as follows:
5353 Section 516. A. It shall be the duty of the sher iff,
5454 undersheriffs and deputies to keep and preserve the peace of their
5555 respective counties, and to quiet and suppress all affrays, riots
5656 and unlawful assemblies and insurrections, for which purpose and for
5757 the service of process in civil and criminal case s, and in
5858 apprehending or securing any person for felony or breach of the
5959 peace, they and every constable may call to their aid such person or
6060 persons of their county as they may deem necessary.

8787 B. The sheriff, in addition to the duties pursuant to
8888 subsection A of this section, shall coordinate and administer
8989 courthouse security.
9090 C. The sheriff is recognized as a constitutional office and is
9191 the chief law enforcement officer of the county.
9292 SECTION 2. This act shall become effective November 1, 2022.
