51	52		BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA:
52	53		SECTION 1. NEW LAW A new secti on of law to be codified
53	54		in the Oklahoma Statutes as Section 1685.2 of Title 21, unless there
54	55		is created a duplication in nu mbering, reads as follows:
55	56		A. This section shall be known and may be cited as the
56	57		"Endangered Ark Foundation Preservation Act ".
57	58		B. The purpose of this act is to preserve th e safety, health,
58	59		and well-being of elephants in Oklahoma.
59	60		C. As used in the Enda ngered Ark Foundation Preservation Act:
60	61		1. "Free contact" means the use of tools and techniques such as
61	62		a guide and tether to help elephants cope with certain conditions or
62		-	as necessary during intensive procedures associated with treating
63		-	chronic illnesses or animal reproduction; and

91	91		2. "Protected contact" means the contact between elephant and
92	92		handler through a barrier such as a chu te or an elephant restraint
93	93		device.
94	94		D. It shall not be considered cruelty to animals as provided in
95	95		Section 1685 of Title 2 1 of the Oklahoma Statutes for licensed
96	96		operators of a nonprofit entity caring for elephants to practice
97	97		free contact and protected contact.
98	98		SECTION 2. This act shall become effective November 1, 2022.
