40	45		An Act relating to statewide accessibility signage;
41	46		amending 11 O.S. 2021, Section 36-101A, which relates
42	47		to physically disabled parking and access signage;
43	48		requiring signage changes; providing construing
44	49		provision; and providing an effective date .

50	55		BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA:
51	56		SECTION 1. AMENDATORY 11 O.S. 2021, Section 36-101A, is
52	57		amended to read as follows :
53	58		Section 36-101A. A. Cities and towns are hereby authorized to
54	59		construct and provide parking spaces, curb c uts, ramps and signage
55	60		for physically disabled parking and access for use in conjunc tion
56	61		with facilities, both publ ic and private, open to the general
57	62		public. The city or town may bear the cost of such construction, or
58	63		at the option of the city or town an d the owner of such facilities,
59	64		share the cost of such construction with the owner o f such
60	65		facilities.

	93	+	B. Beginning January 1, 2010, the The posted signage for every
	94	+	parking space that is designated and posted as a reserved area for
89	95		the parking of a motor vehicle operated by or transporting a
90	96		physically disabled person shall display sign R7-8, as provided in
91	97		the latest edition of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices
92	98		published by the Federal Highway Administration of the United States
93	99		Department of Transportation a sign which must be tw elve (12) inches
94	100		by eighteen (18) inches or larger and must use a design of the
95	101		modernized International Symbol for Accessibil ity, which shall
96	102		depict a figure leaning f orward in a wheelchair , which includes the
97	103		words "RESERVED PARKING" and the blue and white international symbol
98	104		of access. Van-accessible physically disabled reser ved parking
99		-	spaces shall also display sign R7-8a immediately below sign R7-8, as

108	114		this section shall be considered an addition to an y federal or state
109	115		law, rule or regulation regarding the signage requirements for
110		-	physically disabled parking spaces and shall not limit or amend any
111		-	other applicable laws, ru les or regulations.

	144	+	other applicable laws, ru les or regulations.
138	145		C. The blue and white international symbol of access,
139	146		accompanied by appropriate language including, bu t not limited to,
140	147		"Handicapped Parking", "Reserved for Handicapped" and "Permit
141	148		Required-Towing Enforced" may be used in lieu of sig n R7-8 if the
142	149		sign was erected prior to January 1, 2010 January 1, 2023.
143	150		D. Nothing in this section shall be construed as t o necessitate
144	151		replacement of existing sign age or inventory prior to ordin ary
145	152		maintenance procedures and rotations.
146	153		SECTION 2. This act shall become effective November 1, 2022.
