AS INTRODUCED 
 
An Act relating to municipalities; allowing 
municipalities under certain populations t o hire 
peace officers without parti cipating in the police 
pension system; providing for codification; providing 
an effective date. 
 
 
 
 
 
BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA: 
SECTION 1.     NEW LAW     A new section o f law to be codified 
in the Oklahoma Statutes as S ection 22-140 of Title 11, unless there 
is created a duplication in numb ering, reads as follows: 
Any municipality with a population of less than four thousand 
five hundred (4,500) as determined by the latest Federal Decennial 
Census may hire peace officers and not be required to be a 
participating municipality in the Oklahoma Police Pension and 
Retirement System. 
SECTION 2.  This act shall become effective November 1, 2022.
