6565 An Act relating to students; amending Section 1,

7979 BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA:
8080 SECTION 1. AMENDATORY Section 1, Chapter 61, O.S .L. 2017
8181 (70 O.S. Supp. 2020, Section 11 -107.1), is amended to read as
8282 follows:
8383 Section 11-107.1. A. Each Beginning with the 2021 -2022 school
8484 year, each school district in this state may offer a shall provide
8585 remediation course courses for high school students who score below
8686 a nineteen (19) on the benchmarks on subject-area portions of the
8787 American College Testing (ACT ) exam or below an equivalent score
8888 scores on the SAT exam in the most recent year for which student
8989 performance data is available.

141141 B. Remediation required by subsection A of this section may
142142 include but is not limited to:
143143 1. Extended instructional time during the school day;
144144 2. A summer academy;
145145 3. Tutoring;
146146 4. Online coursework;
147147 5. Repetition of an y course in which the student has
148148 demonstrated academic deficiency by scoring below the benchmarks in
149149 subject-area portions of the ACT or SAT; or
150150 6. Other supplementary services.
151151 C. Nothing in subsection A of this section shall be construed
152152 to require that a teacher providing instruction i n the remediation
153153 course be certified in any subjec t matter that is tested on the ACT
154154 or SAT exam.
155155 D. The State Board of Education may promulgate rules to
156156 implement the provisions of this section.
157157 SECTION 2. This act shall become effectiv e July 1, 2021.
158158 SECTION 3. It being immediately necessary for the preservation
159159 of the public peace, health or safety, an emergency is hereby
160160 declared to exist, by reason whereof thi s act shall take effec t and
161161 be in full force from and afte r its passage and approval.
