4441 2021, Section 12-609, which relates to required
4542 equipment for motorcycles; deleting limitation on the
4643 height of motorcycle handlebars; and providing an

5150 BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA:
5251 SECTION 1. AMENDATORY 47 O.S. 2021, Section 12 -609, is
5352 amended to read as fol lows:
5453 Section 12-609. A. In addition to other requiremen ts
5554 prescribed by this chapter, by federal law or by local ordinance,
5655 all motorcycles, except when operated on actual trail rides
5756 conducted outside of public roads and highwa ys, shall be equipped
5857 with:
5958 1. Two rearview mirrors, containing a reflection surfa ce of not
6059 less than three (3) inches in diameter, mounted one on each side of
6160 the motorcycle and positioned so as to enable the operator to
6261 clearly view the roadway to the r ear of the vehicle;

9088 2. A windshield of sufficient quality, size and thickness to
9189 protect the operator from foreign objects , except that in lieu of
9290 such windshield, the operator shall wear gog gles or other protective
9391 eyewear which meets American National S tandards Institute (ANSI)
9492 Standard Z87.1 and provides positive retention, or a face shield of
9593 material and design to protect the operator from foreign objects;
9694 3. A properly operating speedom eter capable of registering at
9795 least the maximum legal speed lim it for that motorcycle;
9896 4. A fender over each wheel. All fenders shall be of the type
9997 provided by the manufacturer;
10098 5. A horn which shall comply with the requirements of Section
10199 12-401 of this title; and
102100 6. A muffler or other effective noise -suppressing system which
103101 shall comply with the requirements of Section 12-402 of this title.
104102 B. No person under eighteen (18) years of age shall operate or
105103 ride upon any motorcycle unless such person i s properly wearing a
106104 crash helmet of a type which complies with standards established by
107105 49 C.F.R., Section 571.218.
108106 C. Handlebars on motorcycles shall not be higher than eye level
109107 of the operator.
110108 SECTION 2. This act shall become effec tive November 1, 2023.
