44	41		2021, Section 12-609, which relates to required
45	42		equipment for motorcycles; deleting limitation on the
46	43		height of motorcycle handlebars; and providing an

51	50		BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA:
52	51		SECTION 1. AMENDATORY 47 O.S. 2021, Section 12 -609, is
53	52		amended to read as fol lows:
54	53		Section 12-609. A. In addition to other requiremen ts
55	54		prescribed by this chapter, by federal law or by local ordinance,
56	55		all motorcycles, except when operated on actual trail rides
57	56		conducted outside of public roads and highwa ys, shall be equipped
58	57		with:
59	58		1. Two rearview mirrors, containing a reflection surfa ce of not
60	59		less than three (3) inches in diameter, mounted one on each side of
61	60		the motorcycle and positioned so as to enable the operator to
62	61		clearly view the roadway to the r ear of the vehicle;

90	88		2. A windshield of sufficient quality, size and thickness to
91	89		protect the operator from foreign objects , except that in lieu of
92	90		such windshield, the operator shall wear gog gles or other protective
93	91		eyewear which meets American National S tandards Institute (ANSI)
94	92		Standard Z87.1 and provides positive retention, or a face shield of
95	93		material and design to protect the operator from foreign objects;
96	94		3. A properly operating speedom eter capable of registering at
97	95		least the maximum legal speed lim it for that motorcycle;
98	96		4. A fender over each wheel. All fenders shall be of the type
99	97		provided by the manufacturer;
100	98		5. A horn which shall comply with the requirements of Section
101	99		12-401 of this title; and
102	100		6. A muffler or other effective noise -suppressing system which
103	101		shall comply with the requirements of Section 12-402 of this title.
104	102		B. No person under eighteen (18) years of age shall operate or
105	103		ride upon any motorcycle unless such person i s properly wearing a
106	104		crash helmet of a type which complies with standards established by
107	105		49 C.F.R., Section 571.218.
108	106		C. Handlebars on motorcycles shall not be higher than eye level
109	107		of the operator.
110	108		SECTION 2. This act shall become effec tive November 1, 2023.
