41	41	Sergeant CJ Nelson Legacy Act; amending 70 O.S. 2021 ,
42	42	Section 3218.7-1, which relates to waiver of room and
43	43	board fees for children of commissioned members of
44	44	Oklahoma Law Enforcement; directing for the waiver of
45	45	room and board fees for sur viving children of first
46	46	responders who have given their lives in the line of
47	47	duty; setting time period; defining terms; directing
48	48	for waiver of career technology district fees for
49	49	surviving children of first re sponder who have given
50	50	their lives in the line of duty; setting time period;
51	51	defining terms; providing for noncodification; and
52	52	providing an effecti ve date.

58	58	BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA:
59	59	SECTION 1. NEW LAW A new section of law not to be
60	60	codified in the Oklahoma Statutes reads as follows:
61	61	This act shall be kn own and may be cited as "The Sergeant CJ
62	62	Nelson Legacy Act".
63	63	SECTION 2. AMENDATORY 70 O.S. 2021, Section 3218.7-1, is
64	64	amended to read as follows :

91	91	Section 3218.7-1 A. Within The Oklahoma State System of Higher
92	92	Education, no fees nor room and board shall be charged t o the
93	93	children:
94	94	1. Children of Oklahoma peace officers as defined by Section
95	95	648 of Title 21 of the Oklahoma Stat utes who have given their lives
96	96	in the line of duty;
97	97	2. Children of Oklahoma firefighters who have given t heir lives
98	98	in the line of duty;
99	99	3. Children of commissioned members of the Oklahoma Law
100	100	Enforcement Retirement System , who have given their lives in the
101	101	line of duty; and
102	102	4. Children of Oklahoma emergency medical techn icians who have
103	103	given their lives in the line of duty.
104	104	B. Such waiver of room and board shal l be limited to a period
105	105	of five (5) years.
106	106	C. Such waiver of room and board shall be a servic e benefit of
107	107	a commissioned member of the Oklahoma Law Enforcement R etirement
108	108	System.
109	109	D. For purposes of this section:
110	110	1. "Firefighter" means a volunteer firefighter or a permanent
111	111	salaried professional member of any fire department within the State
112	112	of Oklahoma; and
113	113	2. "Emergency medical technician " means a person volunte ering
114	114	or employed as an emergency medical technician and who is licen sed

141	141	as an emergency medical technician pursuant to Section 1-2505 of
142	142	Title 63 of the Oklahoma Statute s.
143	143	SECTION 3. NEW LAW A new section of law to be codified
144	144	in the Oklahoma Statutes as Section 14-134.1 of Title 70, unless
145	145	there is created a duplication in numbering, reads as follows:
146	146	A. Within the system of career technology districts, no fees
147	147	shall be charged to:
148	148	1. Children of Oklahoma peace officers as defin ed by Section 648
149	149	of Title 21 of the Oklahoma Statutes who have given their lives in
150	150	the line of duty;
151	151	2. Children of Oklahoma firefighters who have given their lives
152	152	in the line of duty;
153	153	3. Children of commissioned members of the Oklahoma Law
154	154	Enforcement Retirement System, who have given their lives in the
155	155	line of duty; and
156	156	4. Children of Oklahom a emergency medical technicians who have
157	157	given their lives in the line of duty.
158	158	B. Such waiver of room and board shall be limited to a period
159	159	of five (5) years.
160	160	C. Such waiver of room and board sha ll be a service benefit of
161	161	a commissioned member of the O klahoma Law Enforcement Retirement
