4040 An Act relating to schools; enacting the Big Yellow
4141 School Bus Act; amending 70 O.S. 2021, Section 6-
4242 101.42, which relates to support employee pay;

4646 additional to certain other compensation and fringe

5656 BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA:
5757 SECTION 1. NEW LAW A new section of law not t o be
5858 codified in the Oklahoma St atutes reads as follows:
5959 This act shall be known and may be cited as the "Big Yellow
6060 School Bus Act".
6161 SECTION 2. AMENDATORY 70 O.S. 2021, Section 6 -101.42, is
6262 amended to read as follows:
6363 Section 6-101.42 A. For the 2023-2024 school year, each school
6464 district shall provide to ev ery support employee, as defined in
6565 paragraph 8 of Section 1-116 of this title, with a salary of less

9292 than Eighty Thousand Dollar s ($80,000.00) per year, a twenty-percent
9393 (20%) wage increase over the base a mount the employee earned dur ing
9494 the 2022-2023 school year if the support employee is employed by the
9595 same school district for the 202 3-2024 school year. The dollar
9696 amount of the salary increase required by this subsection shall be
9797 prorated based upon the number of total hours of work perf ormed by a
9898 full-time-equivalent support employee. If a support employee is a
9999 new employee of the school dist rict, his or her starting salary
100100 shall be a twenty-percent (20%) increase from t he starting salary
101101 for the same position during the 2022-2023 school year.
102102 B. For the 2018-19 school year, each school district shall
103103 provide to every support employee a wage increase over the base
104104 amount the employee earned during the 2017 -18 school year if the
105105 support employee is employed by the same school district for the
106106 2018-19 school year in the amount of One Thousand Two Hundred Fifty
107107 Dollars ($1,250.00). The dollar amount of salary increase
108108 authorized by this subsection shall be prorated based up on the
109109 number of total hours of work performed by a full -time-equivalent
110110 support employee.
111111 B. C. The increase increases prescribed by this section shall
112112 be in addition to any other compensation , increase in compensation,
113113 and fringe benefits provided by th e district or state, or mandated
114114 by law or collective bargaining agre ement, unless the hours or
115115 duties of the support employee are reduced proportionately.

142142 SECTION 3. This act shall be come effective July 1, 2023.
143143 SECTION 4. It being immediately necessary for the preservation
144144 of the public peace, health or safety, an emergency is hereby
145145 declared to exist, by reason whereof thi s act shall take effect and
146146 be in full force from and after its passage and approval.
