5050 BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA:
5151 SECTION 1. NEW LAW A new section of law to be codified
5252 in the Oklahoma Statutes as Section 1-242.5 of Title 63, unless
5353 there is created a duplication in numbering, reads as follows:
5454 A. For the purposes of the Maternal Mortality Review Comm ittee,
5555 hospitals and licensed birth centers must make a reasonable and
5656 good-faith effort to report all death s that occur during pregnanc y
5757 or within one (1) year of termination of pregnancy to the local
5858 coroner or medical examiner for consideration of an au topsy.
5959 B. These deaths must be reported within seventy-two (72) hours
6060 after the death occurs.

8787 C. Medical examiners to whom the death w as reported shall
8888 conduct a death investiga tion, with autopsy strongly recommended but
8989 not required.
9090 D. Autopsies must follow the guidelines for performance of an
9191 autopsy as regulated by the State Department of Health.
9292 SECTION 2. This act shall becom e effective November 1, 2023.
