5454 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATI VES AND THE SENATE OF THE
5555 1ST SESSION OF THE 59TH OKLAHOMA LEGISLATURE:
5656 SECTION 1. The Secretary of State shall refer to the people for
5757 their approval or rejection, as and in the manner provided by law,
5858 the following proposed amendment to Section 26 of Article II of the
5959 Constitution of the State of Oklahoma to read as follows:
6060 Section 26. A. The fundamental right of a each individual
6161 citizen to keep and to bear arms in defense of his home, or her
6262 person, or property, or including handguns, rifles, shotguns,
6363 knives, nonlethal defensive weapons, and other arms in common use,
6464 as well as ammunition and the components of arms and ammunition, for

9191 self-defense, lawful hunting and recreation, in aid of the civil
9292 power, when thereunto legally lawfully summoned, or for any other
9393 legitimate purpose, shall never be prohibited; but nothing herein
9494 contained not be infringed.
9595 B. This section shall not prevent the Legislature from
9696 regulating the carrying of weapons enforcing or adopting narrowly
9797 tailored time, place, and manner regulations, or authorizing
9898 political subdivisions to adopt and enforce such regulations, to
9999 serve a compelling state interest.
100100 C. No law shall impose reg istration or special ta xation upon
101101 the keeping of arms including the acquisit ion, ownership,
102102 possession, or transfer of arms, ammunition , or the components of
103103 arms or ammunition.
104104 SECTION 2. The Ballot Title for the proposed Constitutional
105105 amendment as set forth in SECTION 1 of this resolution shall be in

109109 THE GIST OF THE PROPOSITION IS AS FOLLOWS:
110110 This measure would amend Section 26 of Article 2 of the Oklahoma
111111 Constitution. This measure w ould prevent infringement of the
112112 fundamental right of a citizen to keep and to bear arms. This
113113 measure will not prevent the Legisla ture from adopting
114114 regulations that serv e a narrowly tailored compelling state
