6565 A Joint Resolution directing the Secretary of State

7777 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE AND THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTA TIVES OF THE
7878 1ST SESSION OF THE 59TH OKLAHOMA LEGISLATURE:
7979 SECTION 1. The Secretary of State shall refer to the people for
8080 their approval or rejection, as and in the manner provided by law,
8181 the following proposed amendment to Section 23 of Article V of the
8282 Oklahoma Constitution to read as follows:
8383 Section 23. No A. Except as provided for in subsection B of
8484 this section, no member of the Legislature shall, during the term
8585 for which he or she was elected, be appointed or elected to any
8686 office or commission in the State, which shall have been created, or
8787 the emoluments of which shall have been increased, during his or her
8888 term of office, nor shall any member receive any appointment from

140140 the Governor, the Governor and Senate, or from the Legislat ure,
141141 during the term for which he or she shall have been elected, nor
142142 shall any member, during the ter m for which he or she shall have
143143 been elected, or within two years thereafter, be interested,
144144 directly or indirectly, in a ny contract with the State, or a ny
145145 county or other subdivision thereof, authorized by law passed during
146146 the term for which he or she shall have been elected.
147147 B. The provisions of this section shall not operate to prohibit
148148 a member of the Legislature from being employed as a certified
149149 teacher by a public school district in this state after completing
150150 the term to which he or she was elect ed.
151151 SECTION 2. The Ballot Title for the proposed Constitutional
152152 amendment as set forth in SECTION 1 of this resolution shall be in
153153 the following form:

156156 THE GIST OF THE PROPOSITION IS AS FOLLOWS:
157157 This measure amends Section 2 3 of Article 5 of the Oklahoma
158158 Constitution. It allows a member of the Legislature to be
159159 employed as a certified teacher with a public school district in
160160 this state after he or she completes his or her term in office.
