AS INTRODUCED 
 
An Act relating to nonprofit organizations; defining 
term; restricting certain nonprofit organizations 
from requiring members to become members of certain 
other organizations as a condition of membership; 
specifying applicability of provisions to current 
members of certain nonprofit organization; providing 
for codification; and declaring an emerge ncy. 
 
 
 
 
 
BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPL E OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA: 
SECTION 1.     NEW LAW     A new section of law to be codified 
in the Oklahoma Statutes as Section 869 of Title 18, unless there is 
created a duplication in numbering, reads as foll ows: 
A.  As used in this section "nonprofit organization" means an 
entity organized pursuant to the law of this state or which is 
authorized to conduct nonprofit activity in th is state and a 
majority of its members are comprised of certif ied teachers or other 
music education service providers who, whether music education is 
their exclusive area o f responsibility or the teacher or other 
education service providers provide or assist in providing 
instruction in other areas and subjec ts, and are primarily engaged

in providing music instructio n to students in grades one (1) through 
twelve (12), or who provide instruction in connection with a student 
band or orchestra supported in w hole or in part by funds of the 
school district, or both such functions . 
B.  It shall be unlawful for a nonprofit organization as defined 
by subsection A of this section to require its members to join, 
support, become a membe r of, or to pay dues or membership fees to 
any other nonprofit organization as a condition of joining or 
remaining a member in good standing of the nonprofit organization. 
C.  The provisions of this secti on shall be applicable with 
respect to the persons who are members of a nonp rofit organization 
as defined by subsection A of this section as of the effective date 
of this act. 
SECTION 2.  It being immediately necessary for the preservation 
of the public peace, health or safety, an emergency is hereby 
declared to exist, by reason whereof this act shall take effect and 
be in full force from and after its passage and approval.
