94 | 96 | | 3. All students shall gain literacy at the elementary an d |

95 | 97 | | secondary levels. Students shall develop skills in r eading, |
---|
96 | 98 | | writing, speaking, computing and critic al thinking. For purposes of |
---|
97 | 99 | | this section, critical thinking means a manner of analytical |
---|
98 | 100 | | thinking which is logical and uses linear factual analysis to r each |
---|
99 | 101 | | a conclusion. They shall learn about cultures and environments - |
---|
100 | 102 | | their own and those of others w ith whom they share the earth. All |
---|
101 | 103 | | students shall receive the instruction need ed to lead healthy and |
---|
102 | 104 | | physically active lifestyles. Students, therefore, shall study |
---|
103 | 105 | | social studies, literature, languages, the arts, health, mathematics |
---|
104 | 106 | | and science. Such cu rricula shall provide for the teaching of a |
---|
105 | 107 | | hands-on career exploration program in cooperation with technology |
---|
106 | 108 | | center schools. |
---|
107 | 109 | | 4. The subject matter stan dards shall be designed to teach the |
---|
108 | 110 | | competencies for which students shall be tested as provided in |
---|
109 | 111 | | Section 1210.508 of this title, and shall be designed to prepare all |
---|
110 | 112 | | students for active citizenship, employment and/or successful |
---|
111 | 113 | | completion of postseconda ry education without the need for remedial |
---|
112 | 114 | | coursework at the postsecondary level. |

150 | 153 | | 8. The subject matter standards for history, social studies and |

151 | 154 | | United States Government shall include stu dy of important historical |
---|
152 | 155 | | documents, including the United States Constitution, Declaration of |
---|
153 | 156 | | Independence, Emancipation Proc lamation, Federalist Papers and other |
---|
154 | 157 | | documents with significant history an d heritage of the United |
---|
155 | 158 | | States, and the content of the United States naturalization test, |
---|
156 | 159 | | with an emphasis on the specific content of the test and the ideas |
---|
157 | 160 | | and concepts it referen ces. Beginning with the 2022 -2023 school |

201 | 205 | | establishing and maintaining positive relation ships and responsible |

202 | 206 | | decision making. Physical litera cy shall include the ability to |

203 | 207 | | move with competence and confidence in a wide variety of physical |
---|
204 | 208 | | activities in multiple envir onments that benefit the healthy |
---|
205 | 209 | | development of the whole person. |

206 | 210 | | B. Subject to the provisions of subsection C of this section, |

746 | 761 | | 4. Technology center school districts may offer programs |
---|
747 | 762 | | designed in cooperation with institutions of higher education which |
---|
748 | 763 | | have an emphasis on a focused field of career study upon approval of |
---|
749 | 764 | | the State Board of Education and the ind ependent district board of |
---|
750 | 765 | | education. Students in the tenth grade may be allowed to attend |
---|
751 | 766 | | these programs for up to one-half (1/2) of a scho ol day and credit |
---|
752 | 767 | | for the units or sets of competencies required in paragraphs 2, 3 |
---|
753 | 768 | | and 6 of subsection B or D of t his section shall be given if the |

796 | 812 | | in a concurrent enrollment course which is paid for by the school |

797 | 813 | | district pursuant to th is paragraph, the institution charge on ly the |
---|
798 | 814 | | supplementary and special service fees that are directly related to |
---|
799 | 815 | | the concurrent enrollment course and enr ollment procedures for that |
---|
800 | 816 | | student. It is further the inte nt of the Legislature that fees for |
---|
801 | 817 | | student activities and student service facili ties, including the |

802 | 818 | | student health care and cultural and recreational service fees, not |
---|
803 | 819 | | be charged to such students . |

804 | 820 | | 6. Credit for the units or sets of competencies required in |
