6673 BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF T HE STATE OF OKLAHOMA:
67-SECTION 1. NEW LAW A new sec tion of law to be codified
68-in the Oklahoma Statutes as Section 6 -520 of Title 2, unless there

96-A. This section shall be known and may be cited as the “Chronic
97-Wasting Disease Genetic Improvement Act ”.
98-B. No later than November 1, 2024, the Oklahoma Department of
99-Agriculture, Food, and Forestry shall establish a pilot program to
100-enhance the genetic durability of Oklahoma deer against chronic
101-wasting disease. Such pilot program shall include, but not be
102-limited to, the following program characteristics:
103-1. The Department of Wildlife Conservation will begin
104-collecting DNA samples to establi sh a baseline of average genetic
105-codon markers and genomic breeding value s for native, free-ranging
106-Oklahoma while-tailed deer. For establishing testing locations in
107-the state, the Department shall use Interstates 35 and 40 as
108-dividing lines or establishe d Department deer management zones as
109-published in the current hunting regulations guide;
110-2. Limit participation in the program to native white-tailed
111-deer, born and raised in Oklahoma with genetic resistance breeding,
112-including the SS allele at codon 96, and that surpass the genomic
113-estimated breeding value cutoff established for the program by the
114-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food, and Forestry; and
115-3. Beginning in 2026, during the months of February and March
116-and through the 15th of April, bred female and male deer may be
117-released.

144-C. The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food, and Forestry
145-and the Department of Wildlife Conservation may promulgate rules as
146-needed to implement the provisions of this act.
147-D. The Department of Wildlife Conservation may charge a one-
148-time permit fee, which shall not exceed Five Hundred Dollars
149-($500.00), for citizens purchasing deer as a result of criteria
150-established in the pilot program.
151-SECTION 2. This act shall become effective October 1, 2024 .
