40	40	An Act relating to school curriculum; directing the
41	41	State Department of Education in certain consultat ion
42	42	to develop curriculum related to Native American
43	43	history and culture for students in certain grades;
44	44	requiring Native American history and culture be
45	45	taught in public schools beginning in certain school
46	46	year; allowing curriculum on Native American history
47	47	and culture to be integrated in courses; directing
48	48	the State Department of Education to develop certain
49	49	professional learning opportunities; providing for
50	50	codification; and providing an effective date .

57	57	BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAH OMA:
58	58	SECTION 1. NEW LAW A new se ction of law to be codified
59	59	in the Oklahoma Statutes as S ection 11-103.6q of Title 70, unless
60	60	there is created a duplication in numbering, reads as follows:
61	61	A. The State Department of Education, in consultation with
62	62	federally recognized tribes and experts in Native American history
63	63	and culture, shall develop and make available to public schools
64	64	curriculum related to Native American history and culture for grade-
65	65	appropriate instruction of students in grades one through twelve.

92	92	B. Beginning in the 2025-2026 school year, Native American
93	93	history and culture shall be taught to all students in grades one
94	94	through twelve in public schools in this state , as prescribed in the
95	95	Oklahoma Academic Standards . Native American history and c ulture
96	96	may be integrated into one or more existing courses of study and
97	97	shall be taught in a manner that:
98	98	1. Generates an understan ding of the experiences and
99	99	contributions of Native Americans to Ameri can history and culture ;
100	100	2. Develops dialogue with students on the ramifications of
101	101	bullying, bigotry, stereotyping, and discrimination; and
102	102	3. Encourages tolerance of diversity and reverence for human
103	103	dignity for all citizens in a pluralistic socie ty.
104	104	C. The State Department of Education, in consultation with
105	105	experts in Native American hist ory and culture, shall develop and
106	106	implement high quality professional learning opportunities fo r
107	107	teachers covering Native American history and culture .
108	108	SECTION 2. This act shall become effective November 1, 2024.
