6565 An Act relating to the practices of speech-language

7777 BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA:
7878 SECTION 1. AMENDATORY 59 O.S. 2021, Section 1607, is
7979 amended to read as follows:
8080 Section 1607. A. There is hereby re-created, to continue until
8181 July 1, 2024, in accordance with the provisions of the Oklahoma
8282 Sunset Law, the Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology an d
8383 Audiology whose duty it is to administer the provisions of the
8484 Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Licensing Act . The members
8585 of the Board shall be residents of this state and shall be appoin ted
8686 by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Sen ate. The
8787 Board shall be composed of five (5) members consisting of three
8888 licensed speech-language pathologists or audiologists, provided that

140140 at least one of the three shall be a licensed speech -language
141141 pathologist and at least one a licensed audiologist ; one
142142 otolaryngologist who is certified by the American Board of
143143 Otolaryngology and one lay member.
144144 B. The members of the original Board shall ser ve the following
145145 terms: one member for one (1) yea r, two members for two (2) years,
146146 and two members for thre e (3) years. Thereafter, at the expiration
147147 of the term, or termination of the member ’s service for any reason,
148148 the Governor shall appoint each suc cessor for a term of three (3)
149149 years, or for the re mainder of an unexpired term. The successor for
150150 any of the three speech-language pathologists or audiologists will
151151 be selected from a list of five licensed speech -language
152152 pathologists or audiologists, fu rnished by the Oklahoma Speech -
153153 Language-Hearing Association In selecting appointees, the Governor
154154 may consider recommendations from a statewide organization
155155 representing speech-language pathologists or audiologists , a state
156156 chapter of a national organization representing speech-language
157157 pathologists or audiologists, or other groups or individuals in this
158158 state. The re-creation of the Board shall not affect the staggered
159159 terms of office for Board members established with the original
160160 Board.
161161 C. Before entering upon the duties of the member ’s office, each
162162 member of the Board shall take the Constitutional oath of office and
163163 file it with the Secretary of State.

215215 D. Board members may be reappointed to serve one additional
216216 three-year term. Three (3) years afte r the termination of a
217217 previous appointment to the B oard, a member may be reappointed for
218218 one additional three-year term.
219219 E. Board members shall be reimbursed for travel expenses
220220 incurred in the performance of their duties as provided in the State
221221 Travel Reimbursement Act.
222222 SECTION 2. This act shall become effective November 1, 2023.
