43	40		An Act relating to motor vehicles; amending 47 O.S.
44	41		2021, Section 12-609, which relates to required
45	42		equipment for motorcycles; deleting limitation on the
46	43		height of motorcycle handlebars; and providing an

53	50		BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA:
54	51		SECTION 1. AMENDATORY 47 O.S. 2021, Section 12 -609, is
55	52		amended to read as follows:
56	53		Section 12-609. A. In addition to other requirements
57	54		prescribed by this chapter, by federal law or by local ordinance,
58	55		all motorcycles, except when operated on actual trail rides
59	56		conducted outside of public roads and highways, shall be equipped
60	57		with:
61	58		1. Two rearview mirrors, containi ng a reflection surface of not
62	59		less than three (3) inche s in diameter, mounted one on each side of
63	60		the motorcycle and positioned so as to enable the operator to
64	61		clearly view the roadway to the rear of the vehicle;

92	88		2. A windshield of sufficient quality, si ze and thickness to
93	89		protect the operator from foreign objects, except that in lieu of
94	90		such windshield, the operator shall wear goggles or other protective
95	91		eyewear which meets American National Standards Institute (ANSI)
96	92		Standard Z87.1 and provides positive retention, or a face shield of
97	93		material and design to p rotect the operator from foreign objects;
98	94		3. A properly operating speedometer capable of registering at
99	95		least the maximum legal speed limit for that motorcycle;
100	96		4. A fender over each wheel. All fen ders shall be of the type
101	97		provided by the manufacturer;
102	98		5. A horn which shall comply with the requirements of Section
103	99		12-401 of this title; and
104	100		6. A muffler or other effective noise -suppressing system which
105	101		shall comply with the requirements of Section 1 2-402 of this title.
106	102		B. No person under eighteen (18) y ears of age shall operate or
107	103		ride upon any motorcycle unless such person is properly wearing a
108	104		crash helmet of a type which complies with standards established by
109	105		49 C.F.R., Section 571.218.
110	106		C. Handlebars on motorcycles shall not be higher than eye level
111	107		of the operator.
112	108		SECTION 2. This act shall become effective November 1, 2025.
