5454 BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA:
5555 SECTION 1. NEW LAW A new section of law to be codified
5656 in the Oklahoma Statutes as Section 2-140b of Title 47, unless there
5757 is created a duplication in numbering, reads as follows:
5858 A. The Department of Public Safety shall establish and m aintain
5959 a pursuit alert system to alert drivers of active police pursuits
6060 occurring in their immediate area. The alert system shall include,
6161 but shall not be limited to, the following components:
6262 1. Collaboration with mobile carriers and notification ser vices
6363 to send real-time alerts directly to drivers ' mobile phones via text
6464 messages, push notifications, or other mobile communication methods;

9191 2. Integration with any existing highway electronic message
9292 boards in the area to display real -time updates about the location
9393 and direction of an active pursuit;
9494 3. Limitation on the area of notification to a radius around
9595 the pursuit to be determined by the Department.
9696 B. Alerts of a pursuit shall only be issued when a law
9797 enforcement agency confirms that an ac tive pursuit is ongoing , and
9898 that pursuit poses a significant risk to the publ ic and when public
9999 notification is deemed likely to reduce the risk of harm or assist
100100 in the safe resolution of the pursuit.
101101 C. The pursuit alert system shall provide clear, con cise and
102102 timely information about the pursuit, such as the make, model, and
103103 color of the vehicle, its last known location, and direction of
104104 travel. Notifications shall be issued in a manner that minimizes
105105 driver distraction and promotes safety. Alerts shall be deactivated
106106 once the pursuit has ended or is no longer a threat to publ ic
107107 safety.
108108 D. The Department is authorized to promulgate any rules
109109 necessary to effectuate the provisions of this section.
110110 SECTION 2. This act shall become effe ctive November 1, 2025.
