52	52	BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA:
53	53	SECTION 1. AMENDATORY 70 O.S. 2021, Section 1 -116, as
54	54	amended by Section 1, Chapter 281, O.S.L. 2024 ( 70 O.S. Supp. 2024,
55	55	Section 1-116), is amended to read as follows:
56	56	Section 1-116. As used in this title:
57	57	1. "Teacher" means any person who is employed to serve as
58	58	district superintendent, principal, supervisor, counselor,
59	59	librarian, school nurse, athletic trainer, licensed physical
60	60	therapist, physical therapist assistant, occupational therapist,
61	61	occupational therapist assistant, or classroom teacher or in any
62	62	other instructional, supervisory or administrative capacity. The
63	63	person shall not be deemed qua lified unless the person holds a valid

90	90	certificate issued by and in accordance with the rules of the State
91	91	Board of Education or the rules of the State Board of Career and
92	92	Technology Education, to perform the particular services for which
93	93	the person is employed;
94	94	2. "Superintendent" or "superintendent of schools " means the
95	95	executive officer of the board of education and the administrative
96	96	head of the school system of a district ma intaining an accredited
97	97	school, provided the person holds an administrator 's certificate
98	98	recognized by the State Board of Education;
99	99	3. "Principal" means any person other than a district
100	100	superintendent of schools having supervisory or administrative
101	101	authority over any school or school building having two or more
102	102	teachers. A teaching principal shall be a principal who devotes at
103	103	least one-half (1/2) the time school is in session to classroom
104	104	teaching. Teaching principals shall be required to hold
105	105	administrative certificates;
106	106	4. "Teachers" means, for purposes of complying with the State
107	107	Aid Law and other statutes, but not any other provision of law,
108	108	which apportion money on the basis of teaching units or the number
109	109	of teachers employed or qualified, all pe rsons holding proper
110	110	certificates and connected in any capacity with the instruction of
111	111	pupils;

138	138	5. "Inductee" means any certified teacher who is employed in a
139	139	local school to serve as a classroom teacher under the guidance and
140	140	assistance of a mentor teach er or teachers;
141	141	6. "Student teacher" means any student who is enrolled in an
142	142	institution of higher learning approved by the State Board of
143	143	Education for teacher training and who is jointly assigned by the
144	144	institution of higher learning and a board of educ ation of a school
145	145	district to perform practice teaching under the direction of a
146	146	regularly employed and certified teacher. A student teacher, while
147	147	serving an internship under the supervision of a certified teacher,
148	148	shall be accorded the same protection o f the laws as that accorded
149	149	the certified teacher and shall be eligible to rec eive compensation
150	150	beginning on the first day of the internship for up to one full
151	151	school year; provided, however, that such compensation shall not be
152	152	considered compensation for purposes of teacher retirement or the
153	153	minimum salary schedule;
154	154	7. "School nurse" means a person employed full time by a board
155	155	of education who is a registered nurse licensed by the Oklahoma
156	156	State Board of Nurse Registration and Nursing Education and is
157	157	certified the same as a teacher by the State Board of Education.
158	158	Provided, that any person who is employed as a full -time school
159	159	nurse in any school district in Oklahoma who is not registered on
160	160	July 2, 1971, may continue to serve in the same capacity; howe ver,
161	161	such person shall, under rules adopted by the State Board of

188	188	Education, attend classes in nursing and prepare to become
189	189	registered. A school nurse employed by a board of education shall
190	190	be accorded the same protection of laws and all other benefits a s a
191	191	certified teacher;
192	192	8. "Athletic trainer" means a person employed full tim e by a
193	193	board of education who is a Certified Athletic Trainer with current
194	194	certification from the Board of Certification of the National
195	195	Athletic Trainers' Association and is als o currently licensed to
196	196	practice in the state in accordance with the State Board of Medical
197	197	Licensure and Supervision. An athletic trainer employed by a board
198	198	of education shall be accorded the same protection of laws and all
199	199	other benefits as a certified teacher; and
200	200	9. "Support employee" means an employee who provides those
201	201	services which are not performed by certified teachers, principals,
202	202	superintendents, or administrators and which are necessary for the
203	203	efficient and satisfactory functioning of a sch ool district;
204	204	10. "Licensed physical therapist " means a person employed full
205	205	time by a board of education who is licensed as required in the
206	206	Physical Therapy Practice Act , a member of the American Physical
207	207	Therapy Association, and who regularly practices physical therapy.
208	208	A licensed physical therapist employed by a board of educat ion shall
209	209	be accorded the same protection of laws and all other benefits as a
210	210	certified teacher;

237	237	11. "Physical therapist assistant " means a person employed full
238	238	time by a board of education who assists in the practice of physical
239	239	therapy subject to the direction and supervision of a licensed
240	240	physical therapist, who meets all the educational requirements, and
241	241	who is licensed pursuant to the provisions of the Physical Therapy
242	242	Practice Act, and who is a member of the American Physical Therapy
243	243	Association. A physical therapist assistant employed by a board of
244	244	education shall be accorded the same protection of laws and all
245	245	other benefits as a certified teacher ;
246	246	12. "Occupational therapist" means a person employed full time
247	247	by a board of education who is licensed to practice occupational
248	248	therapy pursuant to the provisions of the Occupational Therapy
249	249	Practice Act and who is certified by the National Board for
250	250	Certification in Occupation al Therapy. An occupational therapist
251	251	employed by a board of education shall be accorded the same
252	252	protection of laws and all other benefits as a certified teacher ;
253	253	and
254	254	13. "Occupational therapist assistant " means a person employed
255	255	full time by a board of education who is licensed to provide
256	256	occupational therapy treatment under the general supervision of a
257	257	licensed occupational therapist pursuant to the provisions of the
258	258	Occupational Therapy Practice Act and who is certified by the
259	259	National Board for Certi fication in Occupational Therapy . An
