5353 WHEREAS, the Academy of American Poets established the month of
5454 April as National Poetry Month in 1996; and
5555 WHEREAS, National Poetry Month seeks to highlight the
5656 extraordinary legacy and ongoing achievement of American poets,
5757 introduce Americans to the pleasures and benefits of reading poetry,
5858 bring poets and poetry to the public in immediate and innovative
5959 ways, and make poetry an important part of our children 's education;

6161 WHEREAS, National Poetry Month, under the leadership and
6262 direction of the Academy of American Poets, is now the largest
6363 literary celebration in the world; and

9191 WHEREAS, poetry enhances and enriches the lives of all

9393 WHEREAS, poetry, as an essential part of the arts and
9494 humanities, affects every aspect of life in America today, including
9595 education, the economy, and community pride and development; and
9696 WHEREAS, poetry has produced some of the nation 's leading
9797 creative artists and has inspired other artists in fiel ds such as
9898 music, theatre, film, dance, and the visual arts.
9999 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
100100 OF THE 1ST SESSION OF THE 60TH OKLAHOMA LEGISLATURE:
101101 THAT April 1 through April 30, 202 5, is hereby proclaimed to be
102102 National Poetry Month in Oklahoma.
103103 THAT public officials, educators, librarians, and all the people
104104 of Oklahoma are encouraged to observe this month, to celebrate the
105105 cultural riches our state has to offer and to recognize the
106106 important role of poetry in creating and sus taining this great
107107 nation with appropriate ceremonies, activities, and programs.
