56 | 56 | | WHEREAS, Kate Barnard was the first woman elected to statewide |

57 | 57 | | office in the United States, serving two terms as the Oklahoma |

58 | 58 | | Commissioner of Charities beginning in 190 7 at a time when women in |

59 | 59 | | Oklahoma did not yet have the right to vote; and |

60 | 60 | | WHEREAS, during her tenure, Kate Barnard was responsible for the |

61 | 61 | | passage of over thirty (30) statutory laws, many of which laid the |

103 | 103 | | such, her legacy is honored with a statue in the Oklahoma State |

104 | 104 | | Capitol and the naming of the Kate Barnard Community Corrections |

106 | 106 | | WHEREAS, the enduring message from Kate Barnard to future |
