7979 BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA:
8080 SECTION 1. AMENDATORY 70 O.S. 2021, Section 1210.528 -1,
8181 is amended to read as follows:
8282 Section 1210.528-1. A. Beginning with the 2017 -2018 school
8383 year, the governing body of each publi c, private, magnet, public
8484 charter, or public virtual charter school in this s tate (the school)
8585 is shall be authorized to enter into an agreement with private or
8686 public organizations for the purpose of creating apprenticeship,
8787 internship, and mentorship programs. Apprenticeships, internships ,
8888 and mentorships may be available to high school sophomores age

141141 school. The apprenticeship, internship , or mentorship may fill
142142 fulfill the requirement of elective courses as the student ’s
143143 schedule permits. A student may not use t he apprenticeship,
144144 internship, or mentorship to replace any other state education
145145 curriculum requirement provided for in Section 11 -103.6 of this
146146 title, except as provided for in subsection D of this section.
147147 B. The governing body of each school public, private, magnet,
148148 public charter, or public virtual charter school shall have the
149149 authority to adopt policies regarding the creation of
150150 apprenticeships, internships , and mentorships that include the
151151 registration and qualifications for private or public organ izations
152152 to participate in the apprenticeship, internship , or mentorship
153153 program.
154154 C. 1. The governing body of each school may Office of
155155 Management and Enterprise Services shall obtain liability insurance
156156 coverage to protect a student students who participates participate
157157 in an apprenticeship, internship , or mentorship program authorized
158158 by this section. The coverage authorized by this subsection shall
159159 be obtained from a reliabl e insurer authorized to do business in
160160 this state and shall not exceed the amo unt that is deemed reasonably
161161 necessary in the opinion of the governing body of each school.
162162 2. The governing body of a school may Office of Management and

164164 student or, the student’s parent or legal guardian , or the governing

217217 charter school for the cost of providing insurance coverage pursuant
218218 to this subsection.
219219 3. The failure of a governing body the Office of Management and
220220 Enterprise Services to obtain insurance coverage authorized by this
221221 subsection or to obtain a specific amount of coverage may shall not
222222 be construed as placing any legal liability on the student, the
223223 student’s parent or legal guardian, or the governing body of the
224224 public, private, magnet, public charter, or public virtual charter
225225 school.
226226 D. The State Board of Education may develop promulgate rules to
227227 determine if apprenticeships, internships, and mentorships
228228 established pursuant to this section are eligible for academic
229229 credit toward meeting the graduation requirements set forth in
230230 Section 11-103.6 of this title.
231231 SECTION 2. This act shall become effective July 1, 2 025.
232232 SECTION 3. It being immediately necessary for the preservation
233233 of the public peace, health, or safety, an emergency is hereby
234234 declared to exist, by reason whereof this act shall take effect and
235235 be in full force from and after its pass age and approval.
