58 | 80 | | 1. “Social media platform ” means a website or internet medium |
---|

61 | 83 | | establish an account, or create a profile for the |

62 | 84 | | purpose of allowing users to create, share, and view |
---|
63 | 85 | | user-generated content through such an account or |

99 | 145 | | B. A social media platform shall prominently display a warning |

100 | 146 | | to any user who accesses the platform for the first time and to any |

101 | 147 | | established user once per day. Such warning shall appear for a |
---|
102 | 148 | | duration of sixty (60) seconds, shall render the applications of the |
---|
103 | 149 | | platform unusable for such duration, and shall not be able to be |
---|
104 | 150 | | terminated by the user before the end of such duration. Such |
---|
105 | 151 | | warning shall display the following message: “WARNING. THERE IS |
---|
106 | 152 | | REASONABLE EVIDENCE TO SUGGEST THAT SOCIAL MEDIA IS HAZARDOUS TO |
---|
107 | 153 | | MENTAL HEALTH, ESPECIALLY IN YOUNG CHILDREN, TEENAGERS, AND YOUNG |
---|
108 | 154 | | ADULTS.” |

109 | 155 | | C. The provisions of this section shall not apply to a text |
---|
110 | 156 | | messaging platform or a platform for which the primary purpose is |
---|
111 | 157 | | related to education or health care. |
---|
112 | 158 | | D. The Attorney General is authorized to bring a civil action |
---|
113 | 159 | | against a social media platform for a violation of the provisions of |
---|
114 | 160 | | this section and to seek injunctive relief or other appropriate |
---|
115 | 161 | | relief as determined by the court. |
