6868 Agriculture Day; recognizing and celebrating
6969 agriculture’s impact on our state ’s heritage and

7777 WHEREAS, agriculture is one of Oklahoma ’s leading industries and
7878 its associated production, processing , and marketing sectors
7979 combined provide nearly 200,000 jobs and contribute more than $2 8
8080 billion to our state ’s economy; and
8181 WHEREAS, Oklahoma ranks fourth nationally wit h more than 77,000
8282 farms and ranches, utilizing 32.9 million acres of Oklahoma ’s rich
8383 land to provide food, fiber, and other necessities of life to
8484 Oklahomans and people acr oss the world; and
8585 WHEREAS, Oklahoma is known as the nation ’s premier spot for
8686 wheat production and research, ranking third for winter wheat

139139 WHEREAS, Oklahoma is also America ’s second-leading provider of
140140 beef cows with nearl y two million head and the third -most cattle
141141 operations at more than 43,000, featur ing over 4.6 million beef and
142142 dairy cattle; and
143143 WHEREAS, Oklahoma also ranks as the second -leading provider of
144144 rye nationally and is one of the highest producers of soybeans ,
145145 cotton, poultry, and pork in the U.S.; and
146146 WHEREAS, agriculture provides a major source of employment for
147147 Oklahoma’s workforce, with one in 50 jobs supported by the pork
148148 industry and another 30,000 people employed by the poultry industry;
149149 and
150150 WHEREAS, the agriculture industry ’s success is vital to
151151 maintaining the strength of Oklahoma ’s economy, the standard of
152152 living for our citizens , and our presence in the world trade market;
153153 and
154154 WHEREAS, it is important for all Oklahomans to understand the
155155 role agriculture plays in their daily lives, whether they live in
156156 urban or rural areas.
157157 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE 1ST SESSION
158158 OF THE 60TH OKLAHOMA LEGISLATURE:
159159 THAT the Oklahoma State Senate declares April 22, 2025, as
160160 Oklahoma Agriculture Da y at the Capitol.
161161 THAT the Oklahoma State Senate recognizes and celebrates
162162 agriculture’s impact on our state ’s heritage and economy.
