77	77	WHEREAS, agriculture is one of Oklahoma ’s leading industries and
78	78	its associated production, processing , and marketing sectors
79	79	combined provide nearly 200,000 jobs and contribute more than $2 8
80	80	billion to our state ’s economy; and
81	81	WHEREAS, Oklahoma ranks fourth nationally wit h more than 77,000
82	82	farms and ranches, utilizing 32.9 million acres of Oklahoma ’s rich
83	83	land to provide food, fiber, and other necessities of life to
84	84	Oklahomans and people acr oss the world; and
85	85	WHEREAS, Oklahoma is known as the nation ’s premier spot for
86	86	wheat production and research, ranking third for winter wheat

139	139	WHEREAS, Oklahoma is also America ’s second-leading provider of
140	140	beef cows with nearl y two million head and the third -most cattle
141	141	operations at more than 43,000, featur ing over 4.6 million beef and
142	142	dairy cattle; and
143	143	WHEREAS, Oklahoma also ranks as the second -leading provider of
144	144	rye nationally and is one of the highest producers of soybeans ,
145	145	cotton, poultry, and pork in the U.S.; and
146	146	WHEREAS, agriculture provides a major source of employment for
147	147	Oklahoma’s workforce, with one in 50 jobs supported by the pork
148	148	industry and another 30,000 people employed by the poultry industry;
149	149	and
150	150	WHEREAS, the agriculture industry ’s success is vital to
151	151	maintaining the strength of Oklahoma ’s economy, the standard of
152	152	living for our citizens , and our presence in the world trade market;
153	153	and
154	154	WHEREAS, it is important for all Oklahomans to understand the
155	155	role agriculture plays in their daily lives, whether they live in
156	156	urban or rural areas.
157	157	NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE 1ST SESSION
158	158	OF THE 60TH OKLAHOMA LEGISLATURE:
159	159	THAT the Oklahoma State Senate declares April 22, 2025, as
160	160	Oklahoma Agriculture Da y at the Capitol.
161	161	THAT the Oklahoma State Senate recognizes and celebrates
162	162	agriculture’s impact on our state ’s heritage and economy.
