71	71	WHEREAS, since 2014, the American Lung Assoc iation’s LUNG FORCE
72	72	initiative has been working to ensure that fewer people are
73	73	diagnosed with lung cancer and that those living with the disease
74	74	live longer; and
75	75	WHEREAS, lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths; and
76	76	WHEREAS, lung cancer screenin g saves lives, and advocacy and
77	77	increased awareness will result in more high -risk individuals
78	78	getting screened; and
79	79	WHEREAS, in Oklahoma, only 9% of those at high risk receive a
80	80	lung cancer screening; and
81	81	WHEREAS, public support for research funding will r esult in new
82	82	treatments and better methods of early detection; and
83	83	WHEREAS, LUNG FORCE is a national initiative led by the American
84	84	Lung Association to defeat lung cancer .

136	136	NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE 1ST SESSION
137	137	OF THE 60TH OKLAHOMA LEGISLATURE:
138	138	THAT the Oklahoma State Senate hereby designates the second week
139	139	in May as Lung Cancer Action Week throughout the state and
140	140	encourages all residents of Oklahoma to learn more about lung
141	141	cancer, risk factors , and early detection and to take action.
