2379 WHEREAS, Bob Wills, born in 1905, began playing fiddle in his
2480 youth before moving with his band, the Te xas Playboys, to Oklahoma
2581 in 1934 to pursue business and creative opportunities; a nd

2782 WHEREAS, Bob Wills became known as the King of Western Swing as
2883 he helped originate and popularize a unique genre of music rooted in
2984 folk, jazz, and blues that would lead to the development of rock and
3085 roll and modern country music; and

3286 WHEREAS, Bob Wills entertained millions of people during his
3387 heyday, performing twice weekly at what would become the historic
3488 Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa, playing live daily radio broadcasts,

39143 Fame in 1968 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999, and was

43146 WHEREAS, Bob Wills’ family has contributed his archival and
44147 artifacts collection to the Oklahoma Historical Society to be
45148 featured for future generations across from Cain ’s Ballroom at the
46149 forthcoming OKPOP Museum; and

51150 WHEREAS, the Oklahoma Historical Society , the Oklahoma Arts
52151 Council, and the Oklahoma Fil m and Music Office have partnered to
53152 present Bob Wills Day at the Capitol, celebrating one of Oklahoma ’s
54153 most significant figures in the history of popular music who
55154 continues shining a bright light on our state.
