CONCURRENT RESOLUTION Whereas Ron Hudson was born on October 29, 1951, and he grew up in Sacramento, California; and Whereas Ron Hudson came to Oregon to play basketball and study at Warner Pacific University in Portland, and he graduated with a dream of pursuing a career in education; and Whereas Ron Hudson was an educator and coach for three decades in the Gresham-Barlow School District (GBSD), many of those years spent at Gordon Russell Middle School; and Whereas Ron Hudson loved being an educator and coach, and he taught and mentored gener- ations of students, making an immeasurable impact on countless lives; and Whereas Ron Hudson’s passion for education and sports was matched only by his deep commit- ment to nurturing the potential in every student and athlete who crossed his path; and Whereas Ron Hudson’s influence extended far beyond the classroom and the basketball court; and Whereas Ron Hudson instilled belief in young students and athletes, which gave them the con- fidence to pursue their dreams, and he imparted life lessons about teamwork, perseverance and in- tegrity that many of them carry with them to this day; and Whereas Ron Hudson taught young people that success is not just about winning games or passing exams, but about the character they build and the lives they touch along the way; and Whereas Ron Hudson was a role model for thousands of young people, at a time when so many of our young people need a beacon of light in their lives; and Whereas Ron Hudson maintained lifelong relationships with many of the students he taught, coached and mentored; and Whereas Ron Hudson was fondly nicknamed “Pappy,” and he was an immensely popular figure with students, colleagues, parents and the wider Gresham community; and Whereas even after he retired from the GBSD, Ron Hudson continued to coach multiple youth sports teams, and he could generally be found on fields and gyms all over Gresham supporting young athletes and laughing with parents at any time of year and in any weather; and Whereas Ron Hudson’s life was devoted to the service of others, and he became a cherished community legend; and Whereas Ron Hudson passed away on August 10, 2024; and Whereas Ron Hudson’s dedication to his family, his students, his players and his community was NOTE:Matter in boldfaced type in an amended section is new; matter [italic and bracketed] is existing law to be omitted. LC 4469 HCR27 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 unwavering, and the void left by his passing is immeasurable; and Whereas Ron Hudson will be forever remembered as a dedicated educator and coach who touched countless lives and made his community a better place; now, therefore, Be It Resolved by the Legislative Assembly of the State of Oregon: That we, the members of the Eighty-third Legislative Assembly, celebrate the life and accom- plishments of Ron Hudson, and we recognize and honor his contributions to the people of this state; and be it further Resolved, That a copy of this resolution shall be presented to the family of Ron Hudson as an expression of our sympathy and condolences.
