Digest: Designates the Corgi as the official state dog.(Flesch Readability Score: 61.2). Designates the Corgi as the official state dog. CONCURRENT RESOLUTION Whereas the State of Oregon has traditionally recognized a variety of official state emblems as tangible representations of the proud spirit and heritage of this state; and Whereas Oregon has designated an official state animal, state fish, state pet, state songbird and even a state insect, but has yet to designate a state dog; and Whereas the Corgi (or Welsh Corgi) is a small type of herding dog that originated in Wales; and Whereas the name corgi is thought to be derived from the Welsh words cor and ci, meaning “dwarf” and “dog,” respectively; and Whereas there are two recognized breeds of Corgis: the Pembroke Welsh Corgi and the Cardigan Welsh Corgi; and Whereas the combination of Corgis’ intelligence, speed, agility and low height off the ground makes them outstanding herding dogs while allowing them to avoid the hooves of cattle; and Whereas Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom adored Corgis, owning more than 30 during her long reign, beginning with Susan in 1944; and Whereas Corgis are absurdly cute and adorable, and their short legs, long bodies and expressive faces make them irresistible; and Whereas Corgis have an outsized personality, and they are full of confidence, charm and sass despite their small stature; and Whereas Corgis are friendly, loyal and affectionate dogs who form strong bonds with their hu- mans and love to be part of a family; and Whereas you can take the Corgi out of the pasture, but you can’t take the herding instincts out of the Corgi, and they love to “herd” their humans around the house and yard; and Whereas every summer, hundreds of Corgis (and their humans) gather from all over the nation on the Oregon coast for the iconic Corgi Beach Takeover, a daylong celebration of our beautiful coast and of all things Corgi, which also raises thousands of dollars for the Oregon Humane Society; and Whereas Corgis are exceptionally smart and quick learners, but they’re also silly and enter- taining dogs who are famous for their hilarious antics and expressive way of “talking” with grum- bles, yips and woo-woos; and Whereas Corgis always look happy, and they spread joy wherever they go; and Whereas Corgis love games and playtime, and they are always up for an epic Oregon adventure, NOTE:Matter in boldfaced type in an amended section is new; matter [italic and bracketed] is existing law to be omitted. New sections are in boldfaced type.
