CONCURRENT RESOLUTION Whereas Brian Edward Flowers, a 15-year veteran of the Gresham Fire Department, passed away from occupational leukemia on November 19, 2023, at the age of 48; and Whereas Brian Flowers is survived by his wife, Elsie, his high school sweetheart, and their three children, Carina, Darian and Anthony; and Whereas Brian Flowers’ son Darian, inspired by his father’s legacy, became a firefighter with the Gresham Fire Department in September 2023, two months before the loss of his father and mentor;and Whereas Brian Flowers was known for his larger-than-life personality, boundless humor and unwavering dedication to his family, friends and the community he served; and Whereas Brian Flowers’ impact extended beyond his professional life, as evidenced by heartfelt stories from community members, including one who recalled his generosity and humor when he volunteered to resolve household issues without expectation of compensation; and Whereas on December 17, 2024, on what would have been Brian Flowers’ 50th birthday, his life was celebrated during a standing-room-only gathering of family, friends and members of his “fire family,” demonstrating the profound and far-reaching influence he had on those who knew him; and Whereas Brian Flowers was not only a dedicated firefighter but also a beloved brother-in-law, uncle and friend who provided life lessons, care and unending support to his extended family; and Whereas the loss of Brian Flowers has left a significant void in the lives of his family and all those in the Gresham community, who continue to celebrate his life and contributions; and Whereas Brian Flowers exemplified the highest values of public service, selflessness and com- munity spirit, making an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him; and Whereas Brian Edward Flowers’ contributions to the Gresham community and the people of the State of Oregon will never be forgotten; now, therefore, Be It Resolved by the Legislative Assembly of the State of Oregon: That we, the members of the Eighty-third Legislative Assembly, express our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Brian Edward Flowers, and we recognize his dedication, bravery and service to the Gresham community and to the people of the State of Oregon; and be it further Resolved, That a copy of this resolution shall be presented to the family of Brian Edward Flowers as an expression of our sympathy and condolences.
