WHEREAS, The United States Census Bureau estimates that in 2021, nearly 61 million Americans volunteered and collectively served 5.8 billion hours with an economic value of $122.9 billion; and WHEREAS, Volunteerism can help unemployed people find jobs; and WHEREAS, Volunteerism can provide career experience and teach valuable skills; and WHEREAS, Volunteerism builds social ties by connecting people to others, establishing friendships and increasing social and relationship skills; and WHEREAS, Volunteerism can boost self-confidence and combat depression; and WHEREAS, Volunteerism has been associated with reduced mortality; and 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 WHEREAS, Volunteerism can be done anywhere, from out in the community to working at home; and WHEREAS, Volunteerism can provide a sense of fulfillment and purpose in life; and WHEREAS, Volunteerism builds community resilience in the face of natural disasters and other tests of collective strength; and WHEREAS, Volunteers are active in every major shock and stress that communities experience, from earthquakes and flooding to climate change and local conflicts; and WHEREAS, Volunteers are critical to rural communities, from running sports events and community festivals to providing essential and life-preserving services as firefighters and paramedics; therefore be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the month of April 2025 as "National Volunteer Month" in Pennsylvania; and be it further RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives urge all residents of this Commonwealth to find ways to make a difference in their communities, no matter how big or small the effort, because someone will be grateful that they were lent a helping hand. 20250HR0103PN0885 - 2 - 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21
