A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the month of April 2025 as "Low Head Dam Public
Safety Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The spring is a time when Pennsylvanians want to be
outdoors, and they often enjoy the plentiful recreation
opportunities on our waterways; and
WHEREAS, Across our waterways can be found low head dams,
which are built in a river or stream channel, extend fully
across the banks, and are designed and built so that water flows
continuously over the crest from bank-to-bank; and
WHEREAS, Low head dams are referred to as drowning machines
because of the dangerous, lethal current they can create; and
WHEREAS, April has been recognized nationally as "Low Head
Dam Public Safety Awareness Month" by the American Society of
Civil Engineers; and
WHEREAS, To protect anyone who is using our waterways,
dedicating a month will help remind people of the risks of low
head dams; and

dangers will help save lives; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
month of April 2025 as "Low Head Dam Public Safety Awareness
Month" in Pennsylvania.
