A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and honoring the members of Delta Sigma Theta 
Sorority, Inc., for more than a century of commitment to 
social activism, academic excellence and civic engagement in 
this Commonwealth on the occasion of "Delta Day" at the State 
Capitol.
WHEREAS, Delta Sigma Theta was originally founded in 1913 by 
22 diligent collegiate women on the campus of Howard University 
in Washington, DC; and
WHEREAS, Delta Sigma Theta has since blossomed as one of the 
preeminent service-based sororities, with more than 350,000 
predominantly African-American initiated members; and
WHEREAS, Delta Sigma Theta boasts 26 collegiate and alumnae 
chapters within this Commonwealth, as well as more than 1,050 
chartered chapters located around the world; and
WHEREAS, For more than a century, the sorority has been 
guided by its mission, which includes the constructive 
development of its members and public service with a primary 
focus on the African-American community; and
WHEREAS, Delta Sigma Theta realizes its mission by providing

19 an extensive array of public service initiatives through the 
sorority's Five-Point Programmatic Thrust, including educational 
development, economic development, international awareness and 
involvement, physical and mental health and political awareness 
and involvement; and
WHEREAS, Over the past 112 years, members of Delta Sigma 
Theta have led countless initiatives addressing a variety of 
crucial issues, including voting rights, affordable health care, 
financial literacy, economic empowerment, support for 
historically black colleges and universities, political 
awareness and involvement, gender equality and racial profiling; 
and
WHEREAS, Delta Sigma Theta's 2022-2026 quadrennial theme, 
"Forward with Fortitude: Engaging Our Sisterhood, Empowering our 
Communities, and Elevating Our Impact," is a reflection of the 
sorority's values and principles; and
WHEREAS, Each year since 1989, Delta Sigma Theta members have 
participated in various "Delta Days" at the nation's capitol, 
the United Nations, state capitols, town halls and school boards 
throughout the country in order to increase their involvement in 
the policymaking process; and
WHEREAS, May 5, 2025, marks Delta Sigma Theta's annual "Delta 
Day" at the State Capitol in Harrisburg where members from 
across this Commonwealth come to connect with their legislators, 
advance legislation and serve as a voice for others; and
WHEREAS, The women of Delta Sigma Theta continue to be 
magnificent examples of servant leaders with an uncompromising 
commitment to their communities, serving as the driving force to 
carry on the mission of "Delta Day" at the State Capitol; 
therefore be it

30 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize and 
honor the members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., for more 
than a century of commitment to social activism, academic 
excellence and civic engagement in this Commonwealth on the 
occasion of "Delta Day" at the State Capitol.
