WHEREAS, The Second Continental Congress established the Continental Army on June 14, 1775, to represent the 13 colonies in the fight for independence; and WHEREAS, The Continental Army was composed of six companies of expert rifleman from Pennsylvania, joined by two from Maryland and two from Virginia; and WHEREAS, The original six companies forged the Pennsylvania Line, who would serve in numerous campaigns and battles across the duration of the Revolutionary War, including the siege of the British-occupied Boston, the Invasion of Quebec and the Battle of Trenton; and WHEREAS, George Washington was commissioned as the first Commander in Chief of the Continental Army; and 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 WHEREAS, On July 4, 1776, as Congress declared independence, the Continental Army became the Army of the United States; and WHEREAS, Following the Revolutionary War, the United States Army served in every major conflict of the United States; and WHEREAS, United States Army service members are defined by their loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity and personal courage; and WHEREAS, As of 2025, the United States Army is comprised of more than 1.2 million individuals, including active duty members, reserve members, Army National Guard members and civilian personnel; and WHEREAS, Today, there are approximately 8 million veterans of the United States Army living in the United States; and WHEREAS, With nearly 700,000 veterans living in Pennsylvania, this Commonwealth is home to the fifth-largest population of veterans in the country; and WHEREAS, The United States Army ensures American independence and is always prepared to deploy and fight for this nation; therefore be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate June 14, 2025, as the "250th Birthday of the United States Army" in Pennsylvania; and be it further RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the service and sacrifice of the service members in the United States Army. 20250HR0206PN1465 - 2 - 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25
