Biography

Dusty Johnson is a Republican representative from South Dakota, serving in Congress since January 3, 2019. He was born on September 30, 1976, in Pierre, South Dakota. Johnson graduated from T.F. Riggs High School in Pierre in 1995 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of South Dakota in 1999, followed by a Master of Public Administration from the University of Kansas in 2002.

Prior to his time in Congress, Johnson held various government positions and gained substantial experience in public service. He worked as a staff member for Governors Mike Rounds and Dennis Daugaard in South Dakota from 2003 to 2014, during which he developed a strong understanding of state issues. Johnson also served as a Commissioner on the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission from 2004 to 2011. By profession, he is a business executive and co-owner of a telecommunications engineering firm, which adds to his expertise in technology and infrastructure.

In Congress, Johnson serves on key committees including the Agriculture Committee, the General Farm Commodities, Risk Management, and Credit Subcommittee, the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, the Aviation Subcommittee, and the Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party. His involvement in these committees reflects a focus on agriculture, transportation policy, and international competitiveness, particularly regarding the complex relationship with China.

Johnson has sponsored and co-sponsored a number of bills, addressing various issues pertinent to his constituents and the nation.
