Biography

Senator Jeff Merkley has been serving as a member of the United States Senate since 2009, representing Oregon as a Democrat. Born on October 24, 1956, in Myrtle Creek, Oregon, he pursued his education with a Bachelor of Arts from Stanford University in 1979 and later obtained a Master of Public Affairs from Princeton University in 1982. Before his election to the Senate, Merkley worked as a government analyst and nonprofit executive and held a position in the Oregon State Legislature from 1999 to 2008, ultimately serving as Speaker of the Oregon House of Representatives.

In the Senate, Merkley has been known for his active involvement in various committees, including the Senate Appropriations Committee, the Foreign Relations Committee, and the Environment and Public Works Committee.
