Mike D. Rogers is a Republican congressman representing Alabama’s 3rd district, having been first elected to the House of Representatives in 2002. Born on July 16, 1958, in Hammond, Indiana, he completed his early education in Alabama, graduating from Saks High School in Anniston in 1976. Rogers holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Public Administration from Jacksonville State University, and earned his Juris Doctor from the Birmingham School of Law in 1991. His career in public service began with local governance, serving on the Calhoun County Commission from 1987 to 1990, followed by a tenure in the Alabama state legislature from 1994 to 2002, where he was elected minority leader from 1998 to 2000.

Throughout his congressional career, Rogers has played a significant role, especially as the chair of the Committee on Armed Services. His focus in this capacity has been on national security and defense issues, highlighted by his involvement with various legislation affecting military appropriations and defense policy. Rogers has also served on committees related to the interior, environment, and defense intelligence.

His legislative initiatives often revolve around agriculture, energy independence, and veterans' affairs. For instance, he co-sponsored the Protecting America’s Agricultural Land from Foreign Harm Act of 2025 aimed at safeguarding U.S. agricultural resources from foreign ownership, particularly from nations deemed adversarial. His support for the Unleashing American Energy Act reflects his commitment to promoting domestic energy production while potentially addressing environmental concerns through regulated leasing processes.

In addition to his work on agriculture and energy independence, Rogers has also been involved in healthcare initiatives, as indicated by his support for the Improving Care and Access to Nurses Act (I CAN Act), which seeks to expand the roles of nurse practitioners within Medicare and Medicaid, improving healthcare access for underserved populations.

Rogers's political leanings are aligned with traditional conservative values, advocating for reduced federal regulations while promoting agricultural interests and national defense. His support for legislation such as the Firearm Due Process Protection Act illustrates a strong inclination towards Second Amendment rights, reflecting a general Republican position on gun rights.

Rogers remains an active figure in local community engagements, embodying his personal connection with his constituents. He balances his public responsibilities with his family life, which consists of his wife and three children, highlighting a commitment to both public service and family values. His long tenure and consistent focus on core conservative issues have entrenched his position as a significant player in Alabama politics.
