Biography

A representative from Connecticut, Rosa L. DeLauro was born in New Haven and has served in the U.S. House of Representatives since January 3, 1991. DeLauro graduated from Lauralton Hall High School in 1960 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree from Marymount College in 1964. She furthered her education with a Master of Arts from Columbia University in 1966, after having attended the London School of Economics for a year.

Before her congressional career, DeLauro worked extensively in public service. She served as a staff member for New Haven's Mayor Frank Logue and later as a campaign manager and staffer for U.S. Senator Christopher J. Dodd. DeLauro also held the position of executive director for Countdown '87 and EMILY'S List, organizations focused on advancing women's political participation.
